Being able to improve the opportunities available to healthcare workers through different projects and working as part of a team (team NATH!) to promote these opportunies.

There’s a variety of reasons why that’s the best bit, but mainly because it should help to improve other people’s enjoyment of their own jobs and make it easier for them to provide excellent patient care.

Variety – I would have every piece of equipment out if I didn’t tidy up between every patient. Listening to patients stories and working out with them how I can help them. Vaccinating, wound care, asthma care, minor illness. Seeing patients, speaking on the phone – working out their medication needs. Every moment is different.

The people – I work with some great people who are passionate about doing a good job and supporting staff to make sure their skills and knowledge is up to date.

The variety of work is also important, it means I can be working on different projects and learning different things all the time.

The unexpected surprises- things come out of the blue, like a thankyou card or a gift of appreciation, or something a patient says or has plucked up the confidence to tell us.
Whether we smile at the time or not, it’s a great feeling after it happens!
